SUMTER, S.C. – William Paterson junior Brittany LaBruna (Bloomingdale, N.J./Continental Academy) dropped a three-set decision during the first round of the United States Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Small College Championships Oct. 15 at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
 
The unseeded LaBruna fell to second-seeded Ariana Iranpour of Chicago, 5-7, 6-2, 5-7. The loss was the first of the season for LaBruna in singles play (18-1).
 
LaBruna will take on the loser of the Joy Kim (Pomona)/No. 3 Ashnaa Rao (Johns Hopkins) first-round match on Friday, Oct. 16, at 8:30 a.m. The winner of that contest will play for fifth place, and the loser will play for seventh place, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17.
