MADISON, N.J. – For the first time, three William Paterson (4-3, 3-2 NJAC) Pioneers advanced to their respective flight semifinals, while three others will contend for consolation crowns, based on their first-day NJAIAW Tournament performances Oct. 4 at Drew University.
 
In Flight A, sophomore Brittany LaBruna (Bloomingdale, N.J./Continental Academy) moved on to the semifinal round after an 8-1 victory against Elena Melian of Saint Peter's. Senior Jessica Daniels (Edison, N.J./Edison) will play in the consolation bracket following an 8-2 loss against Richard Stockton's Sydni Fahringer.
 
Senior Kristy Daubert (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) advanced to the Flight B semis with an 8-2 win against Kean's Ayana Bell. Junior Caitlin Pariso (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) opened her day with an 8-4 victory against Alex Scarborough of Drew, but later fell to Stockton's Summer Conover, 8-2.
 
In Flight C, two Pioneers will compete for consolation titles after sophomore Ashley Vidal (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) lost to Drew's Sarah Silvestri, 8-4, and junior Summer Bernales (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) fell to Claudia Hellman of Saint Peter's, 8-0.
 
Freshman Stephanie Doot (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) punched her ticket to the Flight D semifinals with an 8-1 victory against Kean's Andrea Mendez and an 8-0 win against Kean's Michelle Luis. Freshman Ashley Nelson (Irvington, N.J./Irvington) defeated Richonda Fegins of Kean, 8-0, before losing to Drew's Kathryn Sweanor, 8-2. Classmate Brianna Boyd (Delran, N.J./Delran) defeated Jyssel Lebon of Kean, 8-6, before falling to Kean's Brianna Martin, 8-1.
 
William Paterson will finish play at the NJAIAW Tournament Sunday, Oct. 5.
