GENEVA, N.Y. – William Paterson freshman Brittany LaBruna (Bloomingdale, N.J./Continental Academy) registered a pair of victories on the second day of the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Sept. 29 at William Smith College, earning a spot in the semifinal round.

LaBruna, the second-seeded singles player, defeated Maite Vera Antelo of RIT, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5, in the third round. She then posted a 6-2, 7-5 victory against RPI's Casey Olsen in the quarterfinals. The semifinals and final will be contested Monday, Sept. 30.

LaBruna is 11-0 at first singles for the Pioneers this fall, including a 6-4, 6-4 victory against The College of New Jersey's Katie Buchbinder Sept. 21. It is believed that LaBruna's win marked the first time in more than two decades that perennial power TCNJ suffered a first-singles loss against New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) competition. For her efforts, LaBruna has three times been named the NJAC Rookie of the Week this season (Sept. 9, Sept. 16, Sept. 23).
