GENEVA, N.Y. – William Paterson freshman Brittany LaBruna (Bloomingdale, N.J./Continental Academy) advanced to the Round of 16 with a pair of wins on the first day of the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Sept. 28 at William Smith College.

LaBruna, the second-seeded singles player, opened with a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Ramapo's Sara Luby. She then posted a 6-2, 6-0 win against Janice Zhao of the University of Rochester. She will play Maite Vera Antelo of RIT in the third round on Sunday, Sept. 29.

LaBruna is 9-0 at first singles for the Pioneers this fall, including a 6-4, 6-4 victory against The College of New Jersey's Katie Buchbinder Sept. 21. It is believed that LaBruna's win marked the first time in more than two decades that perennial power TCNJ suffered a first-singles loss against New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) competition. For her efforts, LaBruna has three times been named the NJAC Rookie of the Week (Sept. 9, Sept. 16, Sept. 23) this season.
