Men’s Soccer Falls in NJAC Tournament First Round

Pioneers Drop 4-1 Decision at Rutgers-Newark

Box Score NEWARK, N.J. – William Paterson (8-8-2) fell at Rutgers-Newark (16-4-1), 4-1, in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Men's Soccer Tournament Nov. 2.

Bonny Londono knocked home a loose ball at the top of the 18 to hand the Scarlet Raiders a 1-0 edge in the 13th minute, and Raphael Araujo doubled that lead less than a minute into the second half when he scored off a deflection.

Araujo scored his second goal of the night when he stole a clearance attempt and put the ball into the right side of the net in the 48th minute. Araujo's pass to Diego Moraes resulted in a goal and a 4-0 score at the 56:37 mark.

Sophomore Jose Arevalo's (North Haledon, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) sliding stab at freshman forward Leandro Lemache's (Carteret, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) feed put the Pioneers on the scoreboard in the 63rd minute.

Freshman goalkeeper Mike Diacheysn (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) made two saves for WP, and Matt Broomall had nine stops for Rutgers-Newark. The Pioneers owned a 16-10 shot advantage and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
