CHANDLER, ARIZ. – Junior
Ryan Gibbons (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) was 2-for-3 and blasted his second home run of the season on William Paterson's (7-0) way to an 8-1 baseball victory against Minot State (5-16) March 17.
Gibbons led the game off with a home run to right field to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 advantage. A sacrifice fly by Gibbons in the bottom of the fourth frame grew the lead to 2-0.
The Pioneers broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth, putting up three runs in the inning. A single by

Mike Arnold (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) , who sparked the William Paterson offense with his two-out triple. Back-to-back singles by
James Lauer (Hamilton, N.J./Pennington Prep) and senior shortstop
Anthony Dorio (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) allowed Fondacaro to score. Gibbons recorded his third RBI of the day, singling down the right field line bringing in Lauer to extend the lead, 5-0.
Senior
Jack Montanile (Weehawken, N.J./Hudson Catholic) reached on a Minot State error to lead off the Pioneer sixth inning. Senior
Adam Derner's (River Edge, N.J./River Dell Regional) triple scored Montanile, and Derner scored in the next at-bat on a ground ball by classmate
Rob Somers (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional), to make the score 7-0.
Freshman
Tom Gaccione (Little Falls, N.J./Passaic Valley Regional) recorded his first collegiate hit, doubling to right-center in the eighth. Gaccione later scored on an error by the Beavers to make the lead 8-0. Minot State put up a run in the top of the ninth frame on a sacrifice fly by Doug Richter that plated Shayne Court, who led off the inning with a double.
Junior
James Young (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) picked up the complete game victory, allowing only one run to improve his record to 1-0.
Derner finished the day 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Gibbons led the Pioneers with three RBI.
William Paterson will take on Concordia University (Wisc.) Sunday, March 18, in Mesa, Ariz. First pitch will be at 11:00 a.m. MT.
