Naeem Boucher (Paterson, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) scored twice and added a pair of assists as the William Paterson men's soccer team (1-0-1) rolled to a 7-0 victory against Newbury (0-1) in the first round of the Regis Tournament Sept. 3. The Pioneers will face the host team in the tourney championship match Sunday, Sept. 4, at 3:00 p.m.
Boucher was taken down in the box, and hs penalty kick handed the Pioneers a 1-0 edge in the 22nd minute. Boucher connected with senior
Anthony Ferrer (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany) for the second goal of the day just six minutes later.
Freshman
Marcus Hackett II (Montclair, N.J./Immaculate Conception) found the back of the net for his first career goal, one of four unassisted scores on the day for the Pioneers, for a 3-0 edge in the 32nd minute.
Boucher scored his second goal of the match 1:45 into the second half, then assisted on Maddolin's first goal of the afternoon 15 minutes later. Maddolin made in a 6-0 lead in the 69th minute, unassisted, then finished a
Karl Schroeder (Long Valley, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) pass less than 11 minutes later to end the scoring.
Senior
Zach Collins (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) made one first-half save for the Pioneers, and freshman
Ben Horowitz (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) didn't need to make a stop during the final 45 minutes. William McNally had 11 saves for Newbury.
