Box Score

MESA, ARIZ. – William Paterson (3-6-1) advanced runners into scoring position during each of the first three innings, but the Pioneers could not get one of those runners home, suffering a 1-0 loss to No. 7 Johns Hopkins (5-1) March 18 in William Paterson's final game at the Greater Phoenix Baseball Invitational.

The Pioneers had seven hits to the Blue Jays' five, but it was Johns Hopkins that was able to force a run across the plate. A single to start the third inning was followed two hitters later by a triple to score the lone run of the day.

William Paterson had a base runner at second during the first, second and third innings, and again with one out in the top of the ninth, but the Johns Hopkins pitchers managed to get out the jam each time.

Sophomore J.J. Moran (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) pitched the complete game (0-1), striking out five and walking three while scattering five hits. Freshman catcher Ken O'Donnell (Teaneck, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) had the only multi-hit effort for WP, going 2-for-4 at the plate.

William Paterson will start an eight-game homestand Tuesday, March 22, against Manhattanville at 3:30 p.m.
