BOX SCORE

WAYNE, N.J. – Junior Dan Patton (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) made his first goal of the season a dramatic one, finding the back of the net 1:41 into overtime to hand the William Paterson men's soccer team (9-2-2, 3-1-1 NJAC) a 2-1 victory against visiting Richard Stockton (7-5-1, 1-2-1 NJAC) Oct. 6.

Patton picked up a deflected ball and scored to his left, his second career goal and first since the 2009 campaign, to seal the victory for the Pioneers.

The Ospreys broke the scoreless tie less than halfway through the first half, as Richard Stockton was the beneficiary of a handball call in the box while WP was attempting to clear an Osprey corner.  Despite Pioneer keeper Zach Collins (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) getting a hand on the ball, sophomore Pat Rafferty snuck the shot inside the right post for a 1-0 Richard Stockton lead in the 23rd minute.

The Pioneers had numerous chances, out-shooting the Ospreys 23-4 in regulation.  Junior Andrew Tauriello (Stockton, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) had the best chance of the opening half, but his header was saved off the line by a Stockton defender with 29 minutes to play before halftime.

William Paterson's offensive pressure intensified during the second period.  Senior Anthony Ferrer (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany) saw his free kick sail just wide of the left post 15 minutes in, and Ferrer and Patton hit the left and right posts, respectively, during a flurry of activity with less than 19 minutes left.  Two minutes later, it was Ferrer who notched the equalizer, heading in a Michael Encarnacion (Franklin, N.J./Passaic County Tech) free kick to the left side of the frame.

Junior Naeem Boucher (Paterson, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) nearly won it for the Pioneers in regulation, but his blast was inches above the crossbar with 3:20 on the clock.

Collins had one save for the Pioneers, and Lou Herring made five stops for Richard Stockton.

William Paterson will return to action Wednesday, Oct. 12, at The College of New Jersey at 4:00 p.m.
