Box Score
WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (5-2-2, 2-0-1 NJAC) took a 3-1 lead but could not hold off Richard Stockton (4-3-2, 0-2-1 NJAC), playing to a 3-3 double-overtime women's soccer draw Sept. 25 at Pioneer Soccer Park.
Both the Pioneers and the Ospreys had a variety of scoring opportunities during the first half of play but it wasn't until late in the period that William Paterson finally broke through. Freshman
Sheray Anthony (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) finished the rebound of a
Michelle Marabondo (Kenvil, N.J./Roxbury) shot at the right post in the 33rd minute, and just 68 seconds later, Anthony led Marabondo into the box, pulling the goalkeeper off her line and allowing Marabondo to score for a 2-0 Pioneer advantage. Richard Stockton responded in the last four minutes of the half when Jessica Balnis used a loose ball off a free kick, spinning around to line a shot into the right side of the net, making it a 2-1 score 4:36 before halftime.
In the 62nd minute,
Heidi Rogers (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) blasted a ball from the left wing that found the back of the upper-right corner of the net, giving the Pioneers a 3-1 advantage. But, three minutes later, Jessica McQuillen passed to the center of the box to Leah Pocoroba, who put it away and cut the Pioneer lead to 3-2.
The Ospreys used a bad clear on a free kick in the 70th minute to even the match as Shelley Gibney dribbled in and fired to the left post. Pocoroba had a chance with 1:03 left in regulation, but her shot was saved by
Alyssa Falduto (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) to send the match to overtime.
William Paterson owned an overall 16-9 shot advantage, but the Ospreys held a 4-1 edge during the extra time. Falduto finished with six saves, and Maria Dorris made seven stops for Richard Stockton.
William Paterson will visit Ramapo, Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 4:00 p.m.
