SALISBURY, MD. – Freshman
Jaclyn Bertos (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) scored twice, but it wasn't enough as the William Paterson field hockey team (1-4) suffered a 3-2 loss against Randolph-Macon (1-4) Sept. 12 in the consolation game of the Salisbury Invitational.
Monica Jenkins got the Yellow Jackets on the board when she drove home a Kendall Lam pass in the 34th minute. However, the Pioneers evened things up less than six minutes later when Bertos successfully converted a penalty stroke, making it a 1-1 contest at the break.
Randolph-Macon's Lauren Seal and Meredith Young gave their team a 3-1 advantage when they scored off rebounds during an eight-minute span midway through the second half. Bertos finished the scoring in the 64th minute, depositing her own rebound into the back of the cage on a breakaway.
Junior
Meghan Trivett (Highlands, N.J./Middletown North) made 16 saves for William Paterson, and
Melissa Szeliga (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) added a defensive save for the Pioneers. Nicole Woodworth had four stops for the Yellow Jackets.
William Paterson will return to action Friday, Sept. 17, when the Pioneers host Alvernia at 7:00 p.m.
