Box Score

SALISBURY, MD. – William Paterson (1-3) kept it scoreless in the first half, but defending national-champion Salisbury (3-0) broke through for five goals during the final 35 minutes, resulting in a 5-0 field hockey victory in the first round of the SU Invitational Sept. 11.

The Sea Gulls, who sit atop the latest Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Top 20 Poll, got on the scoreboard 1:49 into the second half when Katy Lamboni tipped in a Caitlin Walker cross. Lamboni scored her second goal of the day less than four minutes later when she knocked home an Amber Holland feed from the top of the circle.

Erica Henderson made it a 3-0 score when she finished a rebound in the 46th minute. Kristina Fusco converted a Tara McGovern pass at the top of the circle two minutes later, and Walker finished the scoring when she drilled a Fusco cross in the 52nd minute.

Junior Meghan Trivett (Highlands, N.J./Middletown North) made eight saves for William Paterson, while Anna Cooke did not have to make a stop in goal for Salisbury. The Sea Gulls did, however, get one defensive save from Katie Matteo.

William Paterson will face Randolph-Macon in the SU Invitational consolation game Sunday, Sept. 12, at 10:00 a.m.
