POMONA, N.J. – Both games were decided during the final frame as William Paterson (11-7-1, 2-1 NJAC) split a doubleheader at Richard Stockton (11-10, 1-2 NJAC) April 3. A walk-off single handed the host Ospreys a 6-5 victory in the opener, and freshman Mike Linskey (Stanhope, N.J./Pope John XXIII) singled in the deciding run for a 7-6 Pioneer win in 14 innings during the night cap.

GAME ONE
William Paterson fought back to forge a 5-5 tie, but Richard Stockton pushed across a run during its final at-bat for a 6-5 win.

Stockton scored three times in the bottom of the sixth for the first runs of the game as sophomore Nick Scalise singled in one run and junior Jason Gordon plated two more with a base hit.

Run-scoring singles from sophomore Jack Montanile (Weehawken, N.J./Hudson Catholic) and senior Miguel Lugo (Jersey City, N.J./St. Mary's) made it a 3-2 score in the top of the seventh, but the Ospreys tacked on two more runs during the home half of the frame to build a 5-2 edge.

Junior Mike Moran's (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) single drove in senior Mike Guadango (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) and junior Frank Franco (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills), and a later Anthony Dorio (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) RBI-single tied the game during the top of the eighth. But, in the bottom of the ninth, Chris Wedding singled to right and moved to second on a groundout, followed by a Barry Larro base hit to center for the game-winning run.

Dorio was 2-for-4 at the plate for the Pioneers. Junior Ryan Steidl (Randolph, N.J./Morris Knolls) started and allowed one run on four hits in 5.0 innings. Sophomore Rob Doughty (Jersey City, N.J./Hudson Catholic) pitched 1.0 inning, giving up four runs (two earned), and junior John Slootmaker (Pequannock, N.J./Lakeland Regional) took the loss (1-1) after surrendering one run on three hits in 2.1 innings.

Wedding was 3-for-4 and scored two runs for the Ospreys. John Lightbody picked up the win, pitching a perfect final 1.0 inning.

GAME TWO
Linskey's 14th-inning RBI-single was the difference in a 7-6 Pioneer win to earn a doubleheader split.

Franco drove in the game's first run when he singled in sophomore Rob Somers (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional) from second base during the top of the first, but Stockton answered with a run of its own during the home half of the inning.

Richard Stockton scored twice more in the bottom of the third, but William Paterson snatched back the lead with a three-run fourth inning, using RBI-singles from junior Zac Rose (Nutley, N.J./St. Mary Rutherford) and Lugo, as well as a run-scoring double off the bat of Dorio.

The Ospreys crossed the plate three times in the sixth before the Pioneers knotted the score at 6-6 after Rose plated Moran and Franco with a base hit to center field.

Guadango started the top of the 14th by reaching base on a Stockton error, moved to second after a Franco sacrifice and scored after Linskey delivered a pinch-hit single to left field.

Lugo, Somers, Guadango and Rose each contributed two hits in the winning effort. Sophomore Steve Coral (Totowa, N.J./Passaic Valley) tossed 8.0 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits. Freshman Jacob Baron (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) earned the win in relief (3-0), giving up just three hits in 6.0 innings of scoreless work.

Wedding, Saclisec and Gordon also had two hits apiece for Richard Stockton. Lightbody fell to 3-1 after surrendering one unearned run in 4.0 innings on the mound.

The Pioneers will host Drew Tuesday, April 6, at 3:30 p.m.
