Women's Basketball Lights Up York, 81-39

Pioneers Shoot 52 Percent from Field for Victory

JAMAICA, N.Y. – William Paterson (4-0) shot nearly 52 percent from the floor, turned 26 York, N.Y. (2-2) turnovers into a 28-7 advantage in scoring, and owned a 16-1 edge in second-chance points to romp to an 81-39 women's basketball victory Nov. 23.

The Pioneers steadily built a 38-20 halftime advantage, but it was during the second stanza that they shot the lights out, converting on 68.2 (15-22) percent of their field goals and all three shots from behind the arc. An early 14-0 spurt during a 3:14 time span blew open the game at 56-30 with 14:16 to play.

For the game, WP was 31-for-60 (.517) from the field and 7-for-16 (.438) from three-point range, all while limiting the host Cardinals to a 34.1 (15-44) percent night from the floor. William Paterson outrebounded York 41-22 (15-8 offensive), and outscored the Cardinals in the paint by a 36-14 count.

Junior forward April Smith (Barnegat, N.J./Southern Regional) had her third 20-point scoring effort of the young season with 26 tallies, adding 11 rebounds while hitting 13 of 17 (.765) field-goal attempts. Junior guard BriAnna Lucas (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) posted 21 tallies, five assists and three steals while converting on seven of 10 (.700) shots overall and four of five (.800) from three-point range. Sophomore forward Tatiana Javis (Newark, N.J./Bloomfield Tech) had nine points, six boards and five assists, classmate Lindsey Callander (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) scored seven points while dishing four assists, freshman guard Kristine Jackiewicz (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) contributed eight tallies, and sophomore guard Allyson Scerbo (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) chipped in seven points and a game-best six assists.

Kadisha Wickham led York with 12 points. Shayna Smith added five tallies to her six rebounds.

William Paterson will open its home slate Sunday, Nov. 28, against Baruch at 5:00 p.m.
