SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Freshman Mike Lowe (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. duPont) scored both goals to give William Paterson (6-1-2) a 2-1 men's soccer victory at Union (7-2-1) Oct. 2.

Lowe knocked his own rebound into an open net to break the ice in the 35th minute, taking advantage of a pass from senior back Matthew Heitmann (Westwood, N.J./St. Joseph Regional).

Union mounted pressure on the William Paterson defense throughout the second half and had two quality chances to gain an equalizing score. In the 72nd minute, Chris Chiodo fired wide on a partial breakaway, and seven minutes later, Craig Santangelo missed the net on a shot from straightaway.

Lowe corralled a long pass and chipped the ball past keeper Adam Margulies for a 2-0 lead in the 80th minute. Ben Stewart struck on a header for Union with 25 seconds left in the match off a free kick into the box by Jamie McDonald.

Marguiles had four stops for the Dutchmen, and junior Sam Gerais (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) had four for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers will host U.S. Merchant Marine Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 7:00 p.m.
