BriAnna Lucas (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) scored 12 points and senior
Elisa Brown (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) added 10 tallies as the No. 9/9 William Paterson women's basketball team (14-0) remained perfect this season with a 59-40 victory at Widener (6-7) Jan. 6.
The Pioneers, who turned the ball over just six times against the Pride, built a 29-17 halftime advantage behind 40.7 (11-27) percent shooting from the floor and a defensive effort that allowed Widener to make just eight of its 25 (.320) attempts. Brown scored all 10 of her points during the opening stanza, making four of five field goals, including 2-for-2 shooting from three-point range.
William Paterson extended its lead to as many as 23 (59-36, 1:26) during the second period, despite an 8-for-32 (.250) shooting effort. A 12-1 edge in turnovers and a 13-2 advantage in made free throws during the final 20 minutes were enough to hand the Pioneers their 14th straight victory.
Freshman
Elena Noonan (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) posted eight points and was one of four Pioneers to collect five rebounds. Senior
Stephanie Summers (Atlantic City, N.J./Atlantic City) added seven points and a team-high four assists.
Casey Pritz scored nine points to lead the Pride. Vanessa Hejnas contributed six tallies and a game-best 10 rebounds.
Ninth-ranked William Paterson will visit No. 3/4 Kean Saturday, Jan. 9, at 1:00 p.m.
