No. 20 Field Hockey Rallies for 2-1 Victory

Pioneers Defeat Visiting RPI with Two Straight Goals

WAYNE, N.J. – After trailing by a goal, the 20th-ranked William Paterson field hockey team (2-0) rallied to score twice in a 10-minute span, defeating visiting RPI (0-2) by a 2-1 score Sept. 5.

Junior Sandy Turnbull broke the scoreless tie during the 47th minute with a breakaway and chip past WP goalie Christina Auger (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills). Just 2:05 later, junior Amanda Sheehan (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) tied the game, knocking in a Kelsey Rella (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) pass during a penalty corner.

For the second straight contest, senior Jodi Feriod (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) provided the game-winning goal for the Pioneers, blasting a pass from classmate Christina Ayusa (Runnemede, N.J./Triton) from the left wing into the back of the cage with 12:06 to play.

Auger made three stops in goal for William Paterson, while sophomore Briana Earle had six saves for the Engineers.

William Paterson, ranked 20th in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Preseason Poll, will next play Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Drew at 7:00 p.m.
