WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (1-0) scored the first five points of the match and never looked back, winning its 2009 volleyball season opener by a 3-0 score (25-7, 25-15, 25-7) against visiting Saint Elizabeth (0-1) Sept. 3.

Senior middle/outside hitter Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) paced the Pioneers with 13 kills and five digs, while sophomore setter/outside hitter Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) had 12 assists, six kills and four service aces. Four others had two kills apiece for William Paterson as the team hit .373 overall.

Sophomore Chanice Sears led Saint Elizabeth with three kills, and junior Carmela Selitto added a team-best five digs.

William Paterson will return to action Saturday, Sept. 5, hosting Staten Island at 12:00 p.m.
