Women's Soccer Falls in Opener, 1-0

Pioneers Drop Home Decision against Royals

The Pioneers lost a season-opening 1-0 contest against visiting Scranton.

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer team (0-1) dropped its season opener against visiting Scranton (1-0) by a 1-0 score Sept. 1 at Pioneer Soccer Park.

The Royals, the preseason pick to win the Landmark Conference title, used an unassisted strike from the left side in the 34th minute by freshman Noelle Malone to secure the win.

Senior Meaghan Baker (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) made two saves in goal for the Pioneers, while junior Caitlin Byrne had four stops for Scranton.

William Paterson will return to action Friday, Sept. 4, facing the host Cavaliers in the first round of the Cabrini College Soccer Festival at 7:30 p.m.
