Men's Soccer Suffers Loss in Second OT, 1-0

Pioneers Lose at U.S. Merchant Marine

The Pioneers went to double overtime for the fifth straight match when they visited USMMA.

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team won its 11th straight game with a thrilling 1-0 double-overtime victory against William Paterson (5-3-4) Oct. 7.  The match was the fifth consecutive double-overtime decision for the Pioneers.

During a scoreless first half, the Mariners outshot the Pioneers, 8-6, and were tied in corner kicks, 2-2.

In the second period, the Mariners again were able to out-shoot the Pioneers, 7-2. USMMA had a chance to score in the half on a header by Ander MacKenzie, but William Paterson goalkeeper Dan Peragallo (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) was able to make a nice save as he pushed it over the top of the cross bar.

After a scoreless first extra period, Clint Foster was able to net the Mariners' winning goal with 3:33 remaining in the second overtime.

The Mariners' goalkeeper, Gary Poulin, improved his record to 10-1 overall, picking up his fifth shutout of the season while making three saves. Peragallo recorded three saves in the defeat.

William Paterson will host Rowan Saturday, Oct. 10, at 1:00 p.m.
