Women's Soccer Wins Fifth Straight, Secures Third Seed

Pioneers Will Host Montclair in NJAC First Round Oct. 31

POMONA, N.J. – William Paterson (9-6-3, 5-2-2 NJAC) secured the third seed for the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Women's Soccer Tournament and earned its fifth straight victory with a 2-1 win at Richard Stockton (12-6-1, 5-4 NJAC) in the regular-season finale Oct. 29.

WP will host sixth-seeded Montclair State in the NJAC Tournament first round Saturday, Oct. 31, at 1:00 p.m. at Pioneer Soccer Park. The winner will advance to play at second-seeded The College of New Jersey Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Junior Ali Ruddy (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) put the Pioneers up 1-0 with a 23-yard free kick from straight away in the 22nd minute. Freshman Michelle Marabondo (Kenvil, N.J./Roxbury) made it a 2-0 score when she connected on a long shot from the right wing, using a Margie Alfano (Randolph, N.J./West Orange) assist during the 61st minute of play.

Lindsay Roake cut the advantage in half five minutes later when she knocked in a corner kick for the Ospreys' lone goal of the day.

William Paterson senior goalkeeper Meaghan Baker (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) made two saves, and Maria Dorris had three for Richard Stockton.
