RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent volleyball team (7-8) dropped just its second home match of the season, falling 3-0 to William Paterson (10-3) Oct. 1. The visiting Pioneers won the match by set scores of 25-21, 25-12 and 25-18.
The Pioneers were led by a double-double from
Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson), who totaled a match-high 12 kills and also posted 12 digs, a pair of service aces and five total blocks, including four assists. Senior
Amanda Mitchell (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) finished with a team-high 13 digs, while junior
Michelle Leeder (Ridgefield, N.J./Ridgefield Memorial) was the third William Paterson player in double figures in the category with 10. Sophomore
Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) and junior
Jillian Bronowich (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) split the setting duties, registering 13 and 12 assists, respectively.
Sophomore Jessica Williams and senior Lisa O'Shea led the offensive charge on the night with eight kills each for the Dolphins. Williams finished the night with a .120 attack percentage and also totaled a defensive dig and a block for the Dolphins. O'Shea also chipped in with two assists, a service ace and 10 digs for the Mount, who fell to 6-2 at home in 2009. Irma Nepomuceno contributed nine digs and four kills for the Mount, while Bridget Leonard had a solid all-around evening with four kills, eight digs and a team-high 22 assists. Renee Reynes lifted a match-high 23 digs for the Dolphins and also finished off four kills.
William Paterson will host St. Joseph's-Brooklyn Saturday, Oct. 3, at 12:00 p.m.
