Women's Swimmers Earn Hard-Fought 120-118 Victory at Queens

Pioneers Register Victory in First Meet of 2009

Senior Cathy Hartwell touched first in the 50 (26.68) and 100 (57.73) frees at Queens.
QUEENS, N.Y. – The William Paterson women's swimming and diving team (10-1) earned a hard-fought 120-118 victory at Division II Queens College (5-3) Jan. 21 in the Pioneers' first competitive race of 2009.

Senior Cathy Hartwell (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) touched first in both the 50 (26.68) and 100 (57.73) frees, while classmate Grace McKay (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) won the 200 free (2:03.12) and 200 back (2:19.54). Freshman Lesly Mendoza (Passaic, N.J./Paramus Catholic) finished first in the 200 fly (2:13.63), and junior Giana Albruzzese (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) finished first in the one-meter optional dive (92.7).

The 400 medley relay team of McKay, freshman Brett Kuchin (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East), Mendoza and Hartwell turned in a winning time of 4:24.12.

William Paterson will return to action Sunday, Jan. 25, at The College of New Jersey at 2:00 p.m.
