WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson field hockey team (2-1) battled back twice from one-goal deficits, but Sandy Turnbull of RPI (2-1) slipped in her second goal of the game in the 69th minute to hand the Pioneers their first loss of the season, 3-2, Sept. 7 at Wightman Stadium.
WP trailed early when Turnbull scored her first goal of the game off a corner kick from eight yards out to give RPI a 1-0 advantage. Senior
Meghan Hall (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Twp.) quickly responded for the Pioneers in the 27th minute, netting her fifth goal of the season with an unassisted shot from six yards away.
Neither team would score again until sophomore Jessica Corrigan (knocked in a pass from freshman Emily Morin to the far left post 21 seconds before halftime as the Pioneers trailed again, 2-1. But, the Pioneers responded with a quick strike of their own, when junior
Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) fired in her third goal of the season off a feed from Hall 18 seconds into the second half. The score remained knotted at 2-2 until Turnbull connected on a Morgan Danner corner-play pass with 1:59 remaining in regulation.

Christina Auger (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) collected 11 saves, while Sarah Burcher of RPI posted three saves in the win.
