SCRANTON, Pa. – Senior Amanda Kurdyla's (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) 51st career goal broke a scoreless tie, lifting the William Paterson women's soccer team (1-0) to a 1-0 victory at Scranton (0-2) Sept. 3 in the season opener for the Pioneers.

Kurdyla's strike came of an assist from classmate Dana Bertoli (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) in the 65th minute. Senior Caitlin Kiernan (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) made two saves for her fourth career shutout. Scoring opportunities were few and far between, as the two sides combined for a total of 12 shots (6-6).

William Paterson will make its home debut Saturday, Sept. 6, facing FDU-Florham at 11:00 a.m.
