WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (6-0) continued its undefeated streak with a sweep of visiting Mount Saint Vincent (4-2), 3-0, Sept. 13 at the Rec Center.
Leading by just one early in the first set, the Pioneers rode the solid serving of junior
Amanda Mitchell (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) to score nine straight points and take a commanding 12-2 lead. The Dolphins later cut that advantage to three (13-10), but William Paterson responded with five straight points on its way to a 25-18 victory.
Mount Saint Vincent jumped ahead early in the second set (5-8), but the Pioneers scored four unanswered points off of
Mailyn Rodriguez's (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) serve for a 9-8 edge. WP eventually built leads of 13-9 and 16-10 en route to a 25-17 win. William Paterson had all of the momentum in the third set, using a 17-7 advantage to earn a 25-15 match-clinching victory.
Freshman
Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) had 10 assists, 13 digs and two service aces for William Paterson, while sophomore
Jillian Bronowich (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) added 12 assists, eight digs and three aces. Junior
Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) contributed a team-best 11 kills to go along with eight digs and a pair of aces, and Mitchell collected 12 digs.
Freshman Jessica Williams paced the Dolphins with eight kills, junior Bridget Leonard had 18 assists, and freshman Renee Reyes collected a match-best 22 digs.
William Paterson will begin a four-match road swing Tuesday, Sept. 16, opening New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play at Ramapo at 7:00 p.m.
