DANBURY, CONN. – The William Paterson men's soccer team (5-0-1) continued its excellent start to the 2008 season, earning a 3-0 road victory against Western Connecticut (4-2) Sept. 13.
The 5-0-1 start is the best for William Paterson since the 2002 campaign, when the Pioneers won their first five outings of the year.
Freshman
Hussein Jaafar (North Bergen, N.J./Cliffside Park) scored his second career goal, converting an
Ali Omari (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) pass for a 1-0 William Paterson lead in the 33rd minute. Sophomore
Julian Valerio (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) then found the back of the net two minutes later off an assist from
Bryan Manfria (Nutley, N.J./Nutley), his team-leading fourth goal of the year.
Sophomore
Ambrogio Pipitone (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) tacked on the final goal of the night, knocking in a Valerio assist in the 62nd minute.
The two teams were fairly even in shots (19-16 WP) and corner kicks (5-3 WC), but Pioneer junior
Dan Peragallo (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) made seven saves to keep the Colonials off the scoreboard.
William Paterson will begin New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play Saturday, Sept. 20, at Rutgers-Camden at 7:00 p.m.
