KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Junior Julie Haledjian (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) netted 20 points and eight assists, pacing the William Paterson women's basketball team (4-2) in a 77-66 victory at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (2-3) Dec. 3.

Junior Erin Cook (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) posted 16 points and nine rebounds, while classmate Jillian Kane (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) contributed 13 points in 16 minutes off the bench. Sophomore April Smith (Barnegat, N.J./Southern Regional) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 tallies, adding nine rebounds.

William Paterson seized the lead for good with a Kane three-pointer at the 11:36 mark of the first half (15-12), and the Pioneers entered the locker room with a 35-30 edge. That advantage would quickly extend to 13 (51-38, 13:33), but the Mariners mounted a comeback and shaved 10 points off the WP lead (55-52, 8:01). Freshman BriAnna Lucas (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) answered with a jumper, followed by a Kane free throw, another Lucas bucket and consecutive field goals from Kane and Smith, giving the Pioneers a commanding 64-52 lead with 4:19 to play.

William Paterson will begin New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play Saturday, Dec. 6, at home against Rowan at 3:00 p.m.
