WAYNE, N.J. – Four double-winners helped lead the William Paterson tennis team (2-6) to a 7-2 victory against Saint Elizabeth (3-10) Oct. 9 in the Pioneers' final home match of the year.
Senior
Rachel Menzzopane (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) earned a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) victory at first singles, while junior
Lisa Varacallo (Monroe Twp., N.J./Monroe Twp.) was a 6-3, 6-4 winner at second singles. Senior
Joanna Jakobik (Garfield, N.J./Garfield) fought back for a 6-7, 7-5 (11-9) victory at third singles, classmate
Heidi Busch (Lakehurst, N.J./Manchester Regional) was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at fourth singles, and freshman
Kimberly Seabeck (Montague, N.J./Port Jervis) won her match at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Menzzopane and Varacallo combined for an 8-2 win at first doubles, and Busch and sophomore
Delnaz Shalforoosh (Haworth, N.J./Northern Valley Regional-Demarest) teamed up for an 8-6 victory at third doubles.
The match marked the final home appearance for five seniors –
Keri Harris (Gloucester, N.J./GCIT Academy of Performing Arts), Menzzopane, Jakobik,
Stavroula Ploumitsakos (Lakehurst, N.J./Manchester Twp.) and
Evelyn Tam (Paterson, N.J./Passaic Tech).
The Pioneers will next compete Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 11-12, at the NJAIAW Invitational at Drew University.
