HOBOKEN, N.J. – The William Paterson swimming and diving teams visited Stevens Tech Jan. 26. The Pioneer men (7-3) lost to the host Ducks, 110-81, while the WP women (10-2) fell to Stevens, 115-79.
Junior Grace McKay (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) was the sole individual winner for the Pioneer women, touching first in the 200 back in a time of 2:20.65. Freshman Lauren Horowitz (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) was second in the 500 (5:50.66) and 1,650 (19:44.07) frees, junior Cathy Hartwell (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) placed second in the 50 (26.66) and 100 (57.77) frees, and senior Jessica Lyon (Pequannock, N.J./Pequannock) was second in the 200 IM (2:31.11). The Pioneers won both of the relays, as McKay, Lyon, Katelyn Esposito (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Twp.) and Hartwell posted a time of 4:33.47 in the 400 medley, and McKay, Donivyn Schmidt (Hackettstown, N.J./Warren Hills), Horowitz and Caitlin Rotondo (Brick, N.J./Methacton) won the 400 free with a time of 4:01.92.
Sophomore Vojtech Karas (Brno, Czech Republic/Ludvika Danka) was the only Pioneer double winner, posting times of 22.26 in the 50 free and 49.01 in the 100 free. Sophomore Kirk Smith (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) touched first in the 200 breast (2:26.68) and was second in the 200 IM (2:08.89), while sophomore Danny Lynch (Rockaway, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) placed second in the 500 free (5:25.18). The 400 free relay team of Karas, Kevin Thomas (Seaville, N.J./Ocean City), Lucas Hopper (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) and Evan Seftel (Montville, N.J./Montville) posted a winning time of 3:30.24.
The Pioneers will enjoy a week off, returning to competition Saturday, Feb. 2, at home against The College of New Jersey at 1:00 p.m.
