Box Score

WAYNE , N.J. – After spotting the Blue Knights an early 1-0 lead, the William Paterson field hockey team (4-1) fought back for a 3-2 victory against visiting SUNY Geneseo (0-4) Sept. 9 at Wightman Stadium.

The Blue Knights were awarded a penalty stroke after one of the Pioneers tried to make a diving stop of a shot on the goal line during a corner play. Sophomore Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) moved from her field position into the goal, but she could not stop Jean Danaher's shot to the upper-left corner, giving Geneseo a 1-0 lead with 25:14 remaining in the first half.

William Paterson answered 10 minutes into the second half when freshman Katelyn Buckley (Westampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) scored her first career goal off a Meghan Hall (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Twp.) assist, knotting the contest at 1-1. Less than four minutes later, senior Danielle Herbek (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) redirected a Lauren Frazer (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) pass into the back of the cage from the back post, giving the Pioneers their first lead of the game with 21:44 remaining.

Sophomore Christina Ayusa (Runnemede, N.J./Triton) gave the Pioneers some breathing room in the 58th minute, redirecting Jodi Feriod's (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) long hit for her first career goal and a 3-1 WP lead.

Geneseo finished the scoring with just five seconds on the clock when Stephanie Honsinger scored from a tough angle, converting a Rianna Travers pass for the final 3-2 margin.

William Paterson sophomore Christina Auger (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) made two saves for the victory. Emily O'Leary had six stops for Geneseo.

The Pioneers will begin a two-game road swing Thursday, Sept. 13, at Drew at 7:00 p.m.
