Pioneers Come From Behind for 4-1 Victory

WAYNE , N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer team (2-1) came from behind for a 4-1 victory against Scranton (0-3) Sept. 4 at Pioneer Soccer Park.

The Royals took an early 1-0 lead in the 11th minute by a direct kick resulting from a foul just outside the 18-yard line. Freshman midfielder Chelsea Paskman placed the kick in the right corner of the goal, her first career score for the Royals. The Pioneers tied the game in the 25th minute when junior defender Amanda Fabiano (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) capitalized on a breakaway and scored her first goal of the season. Senior forward Amanda Kurdyla (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) knocked in a cross from junior midfielder Alyssa Tinari (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) in the 36 th minute, giving the Pioneers a 2-1 lead.

The second half of the game remained scoreless until sophomore forward Jessica Reibis (Jackson, N.J./Jackson) scored her first goal of the season off a breakaway with 12 minutes left in the game. Five minutes later, freshman defender Vikki Cicak (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) finished the scoring in the 83rd minute to leave the Pioneers with a 4-1 victory.

Sophomore goalkeeper Meaghan Baker (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) made three saves for the Pioneers, improving her record to 1-1.

“The girls did a great job coming from behind,” said head coach Keith Woods. “They didn't get down on themselves and worked hard to earn a victory.”

The Pioneers will enjoy a week off from competition, returning to the Pioneer Soccer Park Wednesday, Sept. 12, against St. Joseph's-Long Island at 7:00 p.m.
