Kurdyla's Two Scores Help Lead WP to 4-0 Win

Amanda Kurdyla's two goals helped lead the Pioneers to a 4-0 season-opening victory.

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Two goals from junior Amanda Kurdyla (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) helped the William Paterson women's soccer team (1-0) start its season with a 4-0 victory against Manhattanville (0-1) Sept. 1 at Hartwick's Erinn Brozman Memorial Cup.

Freshman Vikki Cicak (Wharton, N.J./Morris Knolls) started the scoring in the 19th minute, connecting on an Amanda Fabiano (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) chip to give WP a 1-0 lead. Kurdyla knocked home Aly Ruddy's (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) indirect kick 53 seconds before halftime to make it 2-0 score, and she collected her second goal of the day in the 56th minute, an unassisted strike. Freshman Jennifer Santos (Belleville, N.J./Belleville) finished the effort in the 88th minute, converting Sam Giancola's (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) pass for the final 4-0 margin.

Junior Caitlin Kiernan (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) made five saves in 61:51 of work, and sophomore Meaghan Baker (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) finished the contest in goal, playing the final 28:09.

The Pioneers will finish the weekend with a 4:00 p.m. match against Marywood Sunday, Sept. 2, in Oneonta.
