NEWARK, N.J. – The William Paterson men's swimming and diving team improved to 6-1 this season with a victory at Division I NJIT, 111-70, Dec. 4.
The Pioneers set the tone for the meet, out-touching the Highlanders in the 200 medley relay (1:50.25), thanks to a come-from-behind effort by Lucas Hopper (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston).
Sophomore Kirk Smith (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) was one of three double winners for WP, earning victories in the 200 IM (2:19.4) and 100 breast (1:06.15). Junior David Caputo (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) was the winner in the 500 (5:22.00) and 1,000 (11:15.39) frees, sophomore Vojtech Karas (Brno, Czech Republic/Ludvika Danka) touched first in the 200 free (1:54.3) and 100 back (1:02.23), and freshman Evan Seftel (Montville, N.J./Montville) came from behind for a victory in the 100 free (51.13).
Both the Pioneer men and women will travel to Adelphi Saturday, Dec. 8, for a 1:00 p.m. meet.
