Pioneer Men Defeat NJIT, 122-75

Senior Angel Camacho won the 200 fly in a time of 2:22.77.
WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's swimming and diving team (7-3) defeated NJIT, 122-75, in its final home meet of the season Jan. 27 at Wightman Gym.

Freshman Joe Shirrman (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) was one of five double-winners for William Paterson, finishing first in the 50 free (22.95) and 200 backstroke (2:15.62) in a personal-best time. Sophomore David Caputo (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) won the 500 (5:12.28) and 1,000 (11:10.12) frees. Freshman Kirk Smith (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) was the winner of the 200 IM (1:11.20) and the 200 breaststroke (2:29.9) in a personal-best time. Senior Sean Davenport (Highland Lakes, N.J./Vernon Twp.) placed first in the one-meter (168.9) and three-meter (188.4) dives, while freshman Vojtech Karas (Brno, Czech Republic/Luduika Danka) touched first in the 100 (49.76) and 200 (1:52.6) frees. Swimming in his final meet at Wightman Gym, senior Angel Camacho (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) won the 200 fly in a time of 2:22.77. In addition, the 400 free relay team of Shirrman, Caputo, Brian Fisher (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Twp.) and Karas posted a season-best time of 3:25.48.


The William Paterson men and women will next compete Saturday, Feb. 3, at The College of New Jersey at 2:00 p.m.
