Karas Earns First-Team Academic All-District Honors

Senior Swimmer Eligible for Academic All-American Laurels

Voyta Karas was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 Men's At-Large First Team.
WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson senior swimmer Voyta Karas (Brno, Czech Republic) was named to the ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 2 Men's At-Large First Team, the group announced May 20. As a first-team selection, Karas is now eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team that will be announced later this summer.

Karas competed at the 2010 NCAA Division III Championships, placing 47th in the 100 free preliminaries (47.43), tied for 28th in the 50 free preliminaries (21.15), and 33rd in the 100 back preliminaries (53.27). He was just touched out by .01 to place second in the 50 free (20.89) while competing at the 2010 Metropolitan Championships, and was named the winner of the 2010 Metropolitan Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference's Dick Krempecki Outstanding Senior Award and a first-team all-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) selection in the 50 free.

In addition to contributing to school records in the 200 medley (1:38.59) and 400 medley (3:37.67) relays, Karas established a new school record in the 100 back (52.91) this past season. He set a new school record with a time of 20.69 in the 50 free, good enough to finish second in the A Final at the 2009 Metropolitan Championships, and he also helped the Pioneers set a new school record in the 200 free relay (1:26.78), all while earning a spot on the 2009 All-NJAC First Team in the 50 free and the All-NJAC Second Team in the 200 free. Named to the 2008-09 College Swimming Coaches Association of America Academic All-America Honorable Mention Team, Karas is a Fall 2007, Spring 2008, Fall 2008, Spring 2009 and Fall 2009 Dean's List student, and he was selected to the 2008-09 All-NJAC Academic First Team. He graduated this week with a bachelor's degree in computer science, and owned a 3.867 cumulative GPA prior to the start of the spring semester.
