WAYNE, N.J. – Six student-athletes from the William Paterson field hockey program were honored with selections to the 2009 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Squad, while the Pioneers' entire squad was named a recipient of the 2009 NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award, the group announced March 26.
For the fourth consecutive year, seniors
Jodi Feriod (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) and
Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) were named to the NFHCA Division III Academic Squad, an award given to student-athletes who achieved at least a 3.3 grade point average during the Fall 2009 semester. The team award is given to a program with at least a 3.0 overall GPA during the fall semester.
Junior
Melissa Szeliga (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield), sophomores
Mary O'Connor (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) and
Meghan Trivett (Highlands, N.J./Middletown North) and freshman
Joleen Kavaliauskas (Sicklerville, N.J./Highland Regional) also earned selections.
William Paterson finished the season 9-9 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
