Kuchin Breaks 100 Breast Record on Day Two at Mets

Pioneers Stand in Fouth Place at Conference Meet

Sophomore Brett Kuchin set a new school record in the 100 breast (1:08.45).
PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Sophomore Brett Kuchin (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) established a new school record in the 100 breast as the William Paterson women's swimming and diving team completed the second day of competition at the 2010 Metropolitan Championships Feb. 20. The Pioneers stood fourth of 14 Division III teams at the Rutgers Aquatic Center.

Kuchin won the B Final with a time of 1:08.45 to better the previous best WP time in the 100 breast of 1:08.52, established at last year's Mets by current senior Caitlin Rotondo (Brick, N.J./Methacton). In today's race, Rotondo touched sixth in the B Final in a time of 1:10.93.

Junior Tara Graham (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) was third in the 100 back C Final (1:05.95), while in the 100 fly, sophomore Lesly Mendoza (Passaic, N.J./Paramus Catholic) placed seventh in the B Final (1:03.81), sophomore Stephanie Smith (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) was sixth in the C Final (1:05.24) and freshman Taylor McKay (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) finished eighth in the C Final (1:05.77).

In the 400 IM C Final, junior Lauren Horowitz (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) was third (5:10.03), freshman Kerry Doris (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) was fifth (5:12.11) and junior Kirsten Shea (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Twp.) was sixth (5:14.01).

The 200 medley relay of Graham, Kuchin, McKay and Rotondo were eighth in the A Final in a time of 1:55.59, while Horowitz, Graham, freshman Christine Uporsky (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) and Mendoza were 11th in the 800 free relay (8:42.22).

The Pioneers will finish competition at the Metropolitan Championships Sunday, Feb. 21.
