PISCATAWAY, N.J. – A new record in the 200 medley relay highlighted the second day of action for the William Paterson men's swimming and diving team Feb. 20 at the Metropolitan Championships, held at the Rutgers Aquatic Center. The Pioneers finished the day sixth of 12 Division III teams.

Kirk Smith (West Orange, N.J./West Orange), sophomore
Jeremy Lim (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) and senior
Voyta Karas (Brno, Czech Republic) teamed up for a new school record, posting a time of 1:37.84 to place sixth in the 200 medley relay A Final. That time was better than the previous top mark of 1:38.59 by Christopher Bell, Brian Boardman, Erik Santiago and Billy Kessel (2000-01). A day earlier, Rosales, Smith, Lim and Karas established a new school record in the 400 medley relay (3:37.32).
Karas had the best individual effort of the day, placing seventh in the 200 free A Final (1:44.43). In the 400 IM B Final, senior
Danny Lynch (Rockaway, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) was second in a time of 4:31.15, and sophomore
Edward Zappile (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) touched fifth (4:45.15). Smith was fifth in the B Final (1:02.39) and freshman
Mazen Yousef (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) finished sixth in the C Final (1:04.72) in the 100 breast, while Lim was eighth in the 100 fly C Final (55.06). Freshman
Tyler Grady (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) touched fifth in the B Final of the 100 back (55.98), while sophomore
Brian Birkbeck (Absecon, N.J./Holy Spirit), Zappile, Lynch and Karas turned in a time of 7:23.51 to place ninth in the 800 free relay.
The Pioneers will finish competition at the Metropolitan Championships Sunday, Feb. 21.
