Pioneers Out-Touched in Final Relay to Decide Meet

Sophomore Brett Kuchin won the 200 IM and 100 and 200 breasts against Division II Queens.
WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women’s swimming and diving team (8-2) was out-touched at the wall during the final relay event, falling just short in a 146.5 – 137.5 decision against visiting Division II Queens Jan. 20 at Wightman Pool.
The team result came down to the 400 free relay, an event the Knights won by a slim 3:58.61 to 3:58.87 margin. Sophomore Brett Kuchin (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) turned in excellent times of 1:10.8 and 2:35.6 to win the 100 and 200 breasts, respectively, as well as a time of 2:23.8 to touch first in the 200 IM. Senior Giana Albruzzese (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) won the one-meter required (130.3) and optional (161.8) dives, and senior Caitlin Rotondo (Brick, N.J./Methacton) finished first in the 100 free (59.42). The 200 medley relay of Donna Balagtas (Clifton, N.J./Clifton), Kuchin, Stephanie Smith (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) and Taylor McKay (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) posted a winning time of 2:02.08.
The Pioneers will celebrate Senior Day when they host The College of New Jersey Sunday, Jan. 24, at 1:00 p.m.
