WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson baseball and softball teams will both host first-round New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament games on Tuesday, April 28th. The third-seeded baseball team (22-15, 12-6 NJAC) will host fourth-seeded The College of New Jersey (20-16-1, 11-7 NJAC) at 3:30 p.m. at Pioneer Baseball Park, while the second-seeded softball team (29-7, 13-5 NJAC) will host fifth-seeded Kean (19-17, 10-8 NJAC) at 4:00 p.m. at Pioneer Softball Field. The first 100 William Paterson students with valid I.D. will be admitted for free to each game, courtesy of the Student Government Association. Live statistics for each contest will be available at wpupioneers.com.

Each tournament is a double-elimination format, and the winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.  Ticket prices are $5.00 for adults, $2.00 for students (with I.D.), $2.00 for senior citizens, and $2.00 for children.

The winner of the William Paterson/TCNJ baseball game will advance to play the winner of the No. 2 Montclair State/No. 5 Ramapo first-round game on Thursday, April 30, at 3:30 p.m. on the campus of the higher-seeded team. The loser of the WP/TCNJ game will play the winner of the No. 1 Kean/No. 6 Rowan contest on April 30 at 3:30 p.m. on the campus of the higher-seeded team. After the completion of the April 30 games, the highest remaining seed will host the remainder of the tournament on Saturday and Sunday, May 2-3.

Earlier this season, the Pioneers dropped both games of a doubleheader at TCNJ by scores of 11-5 and 13-5 on April 18. William Paterson will be looking to win its first NJAC Tournament title since 1997, and make its first NCAA Tournament appearance since reaching the 1999 NCAA Division III College World Series. A year ago, the Pioneers defeated Montclair State 8-6 in the NJAC Tournament first round before losing to Rowan (14-6) and MSU (10-1).

Following the conclusion of the April 28 softball games, top-seeded Rowan will host the remainder of the tournament Friday-Sunday, May 1-3. The winner of the William Paterson/Kean game will play the winner of the No. 3 TCNJ/No. 4 Ramapo contest on May 1 at 4:00 p.m. The loser of the WP/Kean game will play the loser of the No. 1 Rowan/No. 6 Montclair State game in an elimination contest May 1 at 11:00 a.m.

Earlier this season, the Pioneers swept a doubleheader against visiting Kean, 7-6 and 6-1, on April 7. William Paterson, ranked 24th in last week’s National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top 25 Poll, will be looking to win its first NJAC Tournament title and make its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2005, when the Pioneers advanced to the NCAA Division III Championship Finals. Last spring, William Paterson lost to No. 6 Montclair State (6-5) and Kean (8-7, nine innings) during NJAC Tournament play.
