WAYNE, N.J. – Fourth-seeded William Paterson (20-7, 5-3 NJAC) will host fifth-seeded Rowan (13-16, 4-4 NJAC) in the first round of the 2009 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Volleyball Tournament Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 7:00 p.m. at the Rec Center. Ticket prices are $5.00 for adults, and $2.00 for students, children, and senior citizens. The first 50 William Paterson students with valid I.D. will be admitted for free, courtesy of the Student Government Association. All fans attending the match will be required to enter the Rec Center from the soccer-field side (not the parking-lot side) due to another activity being held in the facility.

The winner of the William Paterson/Rowan match will advance to play at top-seeded Montclair State (13-15, 8-0 NJAC) in the semifinal round Thursday, Nov. 5, at 7:00 p.m. In the other first-round match, third-seeded Ramapo (23-9, 6-2 NJAC) will host sixth-seeded Rutgers-Camden (11-13, 3-5 NJAC) Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m. The winner of that match will play in the semifinals at second-seeded Richard Stockton (25-11, 7-1 NJAC) Nov. 5 at 7:00 p.m. The championship match will be played at the site of the highest remaining seed Saturday, Nov. 7, at a time to be determined.

Earlier this season, the Pioneers defeated the Profs by a 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21) score in Wayne (Oct. 6).

William Paterson, under the direction of 31st-year head coach Sandy Ferrarella, is 20-7 overall and 5-3 in NJAC play this season following a 3-2 (25-18, 18-25, 21-25, 25-23, 16-14) victory at Lehman (11-17) Oct. 29.

A two-time member of the All-NJAC First Team, senior middle hitter Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) leads the conference in kills (3.88 per set) and points (5.15 per set), and is the team leader in hitting percentage (.332, fifth in NJAC), digs (2.90 per set) and blocks (0.95 per set, third in league).

Sophomore setter/outside hitter Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) is averaging 2.79 kills, 3.47 assists and 2.87 digs per set. Junior setter Jillian Bronowich (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) is contributing 3.84 and 1.96 digs per set, and junior opposite hitter Michelle Leeder (Ridgefield, N.J./Ridgefield Memorial) is adding 1.69 kills and 2.89 digs per set.

William Paterson returned five starters and 11 letterwinners from a 2008 team that compiled a 20-8 overall record and a 3-5 mark in NJAC play, advancing to the first round of the NJAC Tournament.
