KINGS POINT, N.Y. -- The William Paterson volleyball team (18-7) earned a pair of victories at the U.S. Merchant Marine Quad Match Oct. 24. The Pioneers began the day with a 3-0 loss to Baruch (19-7), but bounced back to defeat Kean (11-11), 3-0, and the host Mariners (14-14), 3-1.

The Pioneers fell to the Bearcats, 16-25, 23-25, 21-25. Sophomore Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) had 10 kills, six assists and 10 digs. Junior Jillian Bronowich (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) compiled 10 assists, classmate Michelle Leeder (Ridgefield, N.J./Ridgefield Memorial) added 10 digs, and senior Amanda Mitchell (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) had 11 digs.

Against the Cougars, the Pioneers earned a 28-26, 25-6, 25-17 victory. Maher again nearly had a triple-double with nine kills, nine assists and nine digs. Leeder posted nine kills and nine digs, Bronowich contributed 12 assists, Mitchell collected 10 digs and senior Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) had eight kills, six aces and four block solos.

The Pioneers finished the day with an 18-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-19 win against the Mariners. With her 24 kills and 17 digs, Helfrich now has 999 career kills. Maher added 12 kills and 13 digs. Leeder posted 18 digs and Mitchell chipped in 11 digs.

William Paterson will visit Rutgers-Newark Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 7:00 p.m.
