Men's Swimming & Diving Upended in Opener

Pioneers Lose to Profs, 135-91

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's swimming and diving team (0-1, 0-1 NJAC) began its 2009-10 season with a 135-91 loss to visiting Rowan (1-0, 1-0 NJAC) Oct. 21.

Senior Voyta Karas (Brno, Czech Republic) scored a pair of victories in the 50 (22.11) and 100 (48.98) frees. Senior Stefan Rosales (Rahway, N.J./St. Joseph's-Metuchen) touched second in the 100 back (57.94), and sophomore Edward Zappile (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) was the Pioneers' top finisher in the 500 free (5:25.76). Sophomore Jeremy Lim (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) turned in a time of 58.40 to touch second the 100 fly, and freshman Sebastian Schrils (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) was third with an effort of 58.60. Sophomore Brian Birkbeck (Absecon, N.J./Holy Spirit) turned in a solid time of 1:58.3 in the 200 free.

William Paterson will return to action Thursday, Oct. 29, at home against Baruch at 5:30 p.m.
