WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson University student-athletes Bobby Dunn (Garwood, N.J./Johnson Regional) and Joi Stevens (Somerset. N.J./Franklin) have been selected to participate in the 2008 NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Stevens will attend the May 25-27 session, while Dunn will participate in the May 27-29 event.
The NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference provides NCAA student-athletes with a forum to openly discuss issues that may affect them on their campuses and in their communities, while also providing them with the opportunity to enhance their leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills. The conference also promotes better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities. After receiving 1,840 nominations from 462 institutions, 700 student-athletes were selected to participate in this year’s program.
Dunn, a sophomore guard on the Pioneer men’s basketball team, has played in 38 career games at William Paterson, including six starts in 22 appearances during the 2007-08 season. A business major, he averaged 5.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game this winter, helping to lead William Paterson to the final of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament, as well as the NJAC North Division title.
Stevens, a junior guard, has helped lead the WP women’s basketball team to back-to-back NCAA Tournament bids (200-7, 2008), as well as the last two NJAC North Division titles and a berth in the 2007 NJAC Tournament championship game. A communication major, Stevens served as a team captain this winter, and started nine of 27 contests after missing most of last season due to an injury.
