WAYNE, N.J. -- The William Paterson volleyball team will begin its 2010 season Thursday, Sept. 2, at York (N.Y.) at 7:00 p.m.

William Paterson will play 11 home matches at the Rec Center next fall, beginning with a contest against Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, Sept. 4, at 12:00 p.m. The Pioneers will open their New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) slate Thursday, Sept. 16, at New Jersey City at 7:00 p.m.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Volleyball senior middle hitter Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) was the recipient of William Paterson University's Outstanding Athlete Award at New Jersey's 18th-annual award luncheon in celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The luncheon, which was held Feb. 7 at Seton Hall University, honored student-athletes at Garden State colleges and universities.

MONTCLAIR, N.J. - Top-seeded Montclair State (14-15) earned a trip to the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Volleyball Tournament championship match with a 25-16, 25-15, 25-22 victory against fourth-seeded William Paterson (21-8) in the semifinals Nov. 5.

The NJAC Player of the Year, senior Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) had a match-high 13 kills along with 14 digs for William Paterson.

PITMAN, N.J. - William Paterson senior middle hitter Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Volleyball Player of the Year, the league office announced Nov. 5.

Helfrich also earned a spot on the All-NJAC First Team. Sophomore setter/outside hitter Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) was an honorable-mention honoree.

Johnson) and sophomore Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) to defeat fifth-seeded Rowan (13-17), 25-13, 25-19 and 25-22, in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Volleyball Tournament Nov. 3 at the Rec Center.

The Pioneers advance to play in the semifinals at top-seeded Montclair State (13-15) Thursday, Nov. 5, at 7:00 p.m.

WAYNE, N.J. – Fourth-seeded William Paterson (20-7, 5-3 NJAC) will host fifth-seeded Rowan (13-16, 4-4 NJAC) in the first round of the 2009 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Volleyball Tournament Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 7:00 p.m. at the Rec Center. Ticket prices are $5.00 for adults, and $2.00 for students, children, and senior citizens. The first 50 William Paterson students with valid I.D. will be admitted for free, courtesy of the Student Government Association. All fans attending the match will be required to enter the Rec Center from the soccer-field side (not the parking-lot side) due to another activity being held in the facility.

WAYNE, N.J. – Volleyball senior middle hitter Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) and was named the William Paterson Pioneer of the Week Nov. 2.

Helfrich averaged 3.62 kills, 3.88 digs and 1.25 blocks per set during a 2-0 week for the Pioneers. She had 10 kills, 13 digs and five blocks during a 3-0 win at Rutgers-Newark Oct. 27, reaching the career 1,000-kill mark during the contest in just her third season as a Pioneer.

BRONX, N.Y. – William Paterson (20-7) earned its 20th volleyball victory of the season with a 25-18, 18-25, 21-25, 25-23, 16-14 victory against host Lehman (11-17) Oct. 29 in the Pioneers’ final match of the regular season.

Sophomore outside hitter Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) posted a triple-double with 10 kills, 17 assists and 11 digs. Senior Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) had 19 kills, 18 digs and five block solos, and junior setter Jillian Bronowich (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) contributed 18 assists and 19 digs.

NEWARK, N.J. – Senior Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) collected her 1,000th kill as William Paterson volleyball team (19-7, 5-3 NJAC) secured a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament first-round home match with a 3-0 victory at Rutgers-Newark (3-26, 1-7 NJAC) Oct. 27. Set scores were 25-17, 25-15, 25-17 in the first match played on the newly-installed wooden floor in The Golden Dome Arena.

The Pioneers will be the fourth seed in the NJAC Tournament and will host fifth-seeded Rowan (12-16, 4-4 NJAC) in a first-round match Tuesday, Nov. 3.
