WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson junior back Joe Strawman (Ringoes, N.J./ Hunterdon Central Regional) was selected to the 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) All-South Atlantic Region First Team, while junior forward Julian Valerio (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) was a second-team pick, the group announced Dec. 11.

CAPE COD, Mass. - William Paterson junior forward Julian Valerio (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) earned a spot on the ECAC Men's Soccer Metro Region All-First Team, the group announced Dec. 2.

Valerio was selected to the All-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) First Team for the second straight year after leading the Pioneers with eight goals, six assists and 22 points while starting 18 times his fall.

PITMAN, N.J. - William Paterson junior back Joe Strawman (Ringoes, N.J./ Hunterdon Central Regional) was named the 2009 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Men's Soccer Co-Defensive Player of the Year, leading a list of six Pioneer honorees announced Nov. 4.

Strawman was joined on the All-NJAC First Team by junior forward Julian Valerio (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan). Junior back Matthew Heitmann (Westwood, N.J./St. Joseph Regional) earned a spot on the All-NJAC Second Team, while junior back Chris Belan (Howell, N.J./Freehold Twp.), sophomore midfielder Anthony Ferrer (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany) and senior goalkeeper Dan Peragallo (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) were honorable-mention honorees.

GLASSBORO, N.J. - Despite a 16-11 advantage in shots and an 8-0 edge in corner kicks, William Paterson (8-5-6) was unable to break through for a goal, losing 1-0 at Rowan (12-5-2) in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Men's Soccer Tournament Oct. 31.

The third-seeded Profs used a goal by midfielder Ryan Gordon at the 55:52 mark to advance to the semifinals. He knocked in a pass from forward Dan Arnold, who had gotten a feed from forward Petter Lunde.

WAYNE, N.J. – Sixth-seeded William Paterson (8-4-6, 2-2-5 NJAC) will play at third-seeded Rowan (11-5-2, 5-2-2 NJAC) in the first round of the 2009 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Men’s Soccer Tournament Saturday, Oct. 31, at 6:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $5.00 for adults, and $2.00 for students, children, and senior citizens.

The winner of the William Paterson/Rowan match will advance to play at second-seeded The College of New Jersey (7-5-4, 5-2-2 NJAC) in the semifinals Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 7:30 p.m.

WAYNE, N.J. – Facing a must-win situation in order to qualify for the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Men’s Soccer Tournament, William Paterson (8-4-6, 2-2-5 NJAC) came through with a gritty 1-0 victory against visiting Richard Stockton (12-7-1, 4-4-1 NJAC) on Senior Night Oct. 29.

The sixth-seeded Pioneers will play at third-seeded Rowan in the NJAC Tournament first round Saturday, Oct. 31, at a time to be announced. The winner will advance to face second-seeded The College of New Jersey in the semifinals Wednesday, Nov. 4.

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – William Paterson (7-4-6, 1-2-5 NJAC) kept its New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Men’s Soccer Tournament hopes alive and snapped No. 4 Montclair State’s (15-0-2, 7-0-1 NJAC) NCAA-record four-year home win streak with a 1-1 double-overtime draw Oct. 26.

In order to finish among the top six teams in the conference standings and qualify for the NJAC Tournament, the Pioneers will need to defeat Richard Stockton in the regular-season finale Wednesday, Oct. 28, at home at 7:00 p.m., and will need Rutgers-Camden to lose to Rowan and Ramapo to lose or tie at Kean. William Paterson tied both Rutgers-Camden and Ramapo during the regular season, and would own the tiebreaker thanks to the tie at MSU.

WAYNE, N.J. – Men’s soccer junior forward Julian Valerio (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) was named the William Paterson Pioneer of the Week Oct. 26.

Valerio tallied five points (1 g, 3 a) in two matches last week. He contributed the assists on the first three goals of a 5-1 win at St. Joseph’s-Long Island Oct. 20, and scored the Pioneers’ lone goal of a 2-1 decision at TCNJ Oct. 21.
