PITMAN, N.J. – William Paterson senior linebacker Jared Burke (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J./Egg Harbor Twp.) and senior wide receiver Joel Rivera (Hoboken, N.J./Hoboken) led a list of 11 Pioneers named to the All-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Football Team announced Nov. 20.
Burke was selected to the Defense All-First Team, while Rivera was named to the Offense All-First Team. Sophomore running back Marcus McKinney (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy), senior offensive lineman Saul Garcia (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) and senior tight end Chris Schule (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) earned offensive second-team accolades, while junior cornerback Leer Biddle (Sicklerville, N.J./Lenape), sophomore defensive back Doug Dudek (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills), junior defensive lineman Dyon Moore (Brooklyn, N.Y./Hudson Catholic) and senior defensive lineman Keith Sayball (Milford, Conn./Foran) were defensive second-team honorees. Junior offensive lineman Chris Osborn (Dunellen, N.J./Dunellen) and junior linebacker Jim Hamill (Stanhope, N.J./Lenape Valley Regional) received honorable-mention selections.

DANBURY, CONN. - William Paterson (5-5, 4-5 NJAC) rolled to a 34-7 victory at Western Connecticut (2-8, 2-7 NJAC) in the football regular-season finale for both schools Nov. 14.
Senior quarterback Matt Marshall (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City) directed a Pioneer offense that tallied 407 yards. He was 18-for-21 for 237 yards and three touchdowns. Classmate Joel Rivera (Hoboken, N.J./Hoboken) hauled in two of those TD passes, finishing with seven catches for 102 yards. Sophomore Marcus McKinney (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) gained 118 yards and two scores on 27 carries, while senior wide receiver Bruce Katkowski (Saddle Brook, N.J./Paramus Catholic) caught three passes for 62 yards.

WAYNE, N.J. - William Paterson senior wide receiver Joel Rivera (Hoboken, N.J./Hoboken) has been invited to participate in his second football all-star game as he has been picked to represent Team USA in the 2009 Tazon de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) to be played on Saturday, Dec. 19, in Monterrey, Mexico.
Formerly known as the Aztec Bowl, Rivera will be one of 50 NCAA Division III players to play for the United States team that will face the Tec Monterrey All-Stars on the Tec de Monterrey Campus Estado de Mexico. Rivera also will play in the inaugural Division III Football Senior Classic Saturday, Dec. 5, at Salem Stadium, in Salem, Va.

WAYNE, N.J. – Senior Jared Chunn carried 37 times for 246 yards and two touchdowns as Kean (8-1, 8-0 NJAC) remained perfect in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play with a 20-0 victory at William Paterson (4-5, 3-5 NJAC) on Senior Day Nov. 7 at Wightman Stadium.
In the loss, senior wide receiver Joel Rivera (Hoboken, N.J./Hoboken) became the Pioneers’ career receptions (152) and receiving yardage (2,107) record holder, breaking the previous top marks of 149 and 2,101 established by Kareen Moon (2004-07).

William Paterson (4-4, 3-4 NJAC) will celebrate Senior Day when the Pioneers host conference co-leader Kean (7-1, 7-0 NJAC) Saturday, Nov. 7. Kickoff at Wightman Stadium will be at 1:00 p.m.
Live statistics and a live audio stream will be available online. Performing at halftime will be The City Wide Marching Band, in association with Eastside High School Marching Band. Prior to the game, the Pioneers will honor their 10 seniors.

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson senior wide receiver Joel Rivera (Hoboken, N.J./Hoboken) has been selected to participate in the inaugural Division III Football Senior Classic Saturday, Dec. 5, at Salem Stadium, in Salem, Va. The game, hosted by the Collegiate Development Football League, will showcase 90 of the nation’s top Division III student-athletes, representing the country’s 238 D-III football programs.
Rivera, who established new Pioneer records with his 74 receptions for 965 yards to earn 2008 first-team all-New Jersey Athletic Conference and second-team all-region accolades, currently has 40 catches for 613 yards and seven touchdowns this fall.

WAYNE, N.J. – Football senior defensive lineman Keith Sayball (Milford, Conn./Foran) was named the William Paterson Pioneer of the Week Nov. 2.
Sayball tied for the team lead with nine tackles (five solo) during a 33-7 victory at Buffalo State Oct. 31. He had 3.0 tackles for a loss of 23 yards, including 2.0 sacks for -19 yards. Sayball contributed a half a sack on fourth-and-eight from the WP-20 with the score tied at 7-7 with 12 seconds left in the first half, and he forced a fumble on the Bengals’ first possession of the second half.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Wet weather and wind gusts in excess of 40 miles-per-hour helped ground both offensive attacks, but big plays on defense and special teams catapulted William Paterson (4-4, 3-4 NJAC) to a 33-7 win against host Buffalo State (1-7, 1-6 NJAC) Oct. 31 at Coyer Field.
The Pioneers pulled away, scoring 26 points in the final 17:33 of the game and limiting Buffalo State to just 52 yards of total offense.
Senior quarterback Matt Marshall (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City) managed the Pioneers’ offense, going 11-for-22 for 136 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Those two TD passes gave Marshall sole ownership of the William Paterson career record with 30.
