Susie Mott will sing the national anthem prior to the New York Rangers' home game against the Boston Bruins Monday, Jan. 4, at 7:00 p.m.
WAYNE, N.J. -- William Paterson field hockey junior midfielder Susie Mott (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) will sing the national anthem prior to the New York Rangers vs. Boston Bruins game Monday, Jan. 4, at 7:00 p.m. at Madison Square Garden.

Mott, a political science major, has performed the anthem prior to every home Pioneer field hockey contest during her three-year career, as well as at William Paterson club ice hockey games and other home athletic events.

WAYNE, N.J. - For the second straight year, William Paterson senior midfielder Jodi Feriod (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) was selected to the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-South Atlantic Region Second Team, the group announced Nov. 16.

Feriod earned first-team all-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) accolades for the second straight year after starting in all 18 games this fall and registering 15 points (6 g, 3 a) to rank fourth for the Pioneers in scoring.

PITMAN, N.J. - William Paterson seniors Jodi Feriod (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) and Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) earned spots on the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Field Hockey All-First Team, the league office announced Nov. 10. Junior Melissa Szeliga (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) was an honorable-mention honoree.

UNION, N.J. - The William Paterson field hockey team (9-9, 2-4 NJAC) saw its season come to an end with a 2-1 loss at Kean (11-4, 3-3 NJAC) Nov. 3.

Following a scoreless first half, the Cougars broke through with a strike by Brittany Gibbs in the 53rd minute, followed by an Erica Kelly goal off an assist from Lauren Kusik 10 minutes later.

Junior Melissa Szeliga (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) cut that advantage in half with 5:43 remaining, converting on a penalty stroke for her third goal of the season.

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson field hockey goalie Christina Auger (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) and midfielder Jodi Feriod (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) were selected to play in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Senior All-Star Game, the group announced Oct. 30.

The 2009 NFCHA Division III Senior All-Star Game will be played on Sunday, Nov. 22, at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass., at 9:30 a.m.

MONTCLAIR, N.J. -- Deana Hagel had a hat trick to help lead Montclair State (11-6, 3-2 NJAC) to a 6-1 field hockey victory against visiting William Paterson (9-8, 2-3 NJAC) Oct. 31.

Junior Amanda Sheehan (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) got the Pioneers on the scoreboard in the 48th minute. Senior Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) moved in along the right side and flipped the ball to Sheehan, who knocked in the pass for her eighth tally of the year.

PITMAN, N.J. – William Paterson senior forward Christina Ayusa (Runnemede, N.J./Triton) was selected as the Oct. 26 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week.

Ayusa had two goals and an assist during a 2-0 week for the Pioneers. She tied the game with a goal in the 21st minute of a 3-2 win at Ramapo Oct. 20, and she scored the game's first goal 1:58 in and assisted on the second nine minutes later during a 4-2 victory against Richard Stockton Oct. 22.

WAYNE, N.J. -- William Paterson (9-7, 2-2 NJAC) evened its field hockey conference record and celebrated Senior Night with a 4-2 victory against Richard Stockton (3-12, 0-4 NJAC) Oct. 22.

The Pioneers attacked from the opening whistle and were rewarded 1:58 into the contest when senior Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) passed from the right side to classmate Christina Ayusa (Runnemede, N.J./Triton), who finished to the right side of the goal. Ayusa later worked a give-and-go with fellow senior Jodi Feriod (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro), and Feriod buried the ball for a 2-0 edge in the 11th minute.

MAHWAH, N.J. -- William Paterson (8-7, 1-2 NJAC) twice fought back to tie the contest before senior Lauren Frazier (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) scored the game winner in a 3-2 field hockey victory at Ramapo (6-7, 1-2 NJAC) Oct. 20.

The Roadrunners opened the scoring in the first half with a goal just over four minutes in when sophomore Jayne Manigrasso converted a pass from classmate Rebecca Penhaker. Manigrasso's goal was her 15th of the year.

The lead was short lived after the Pioneers were awarded a penalty stroke at the 13:55 mark, one that was put away by junior Melissa Szeliga (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) to tie the game at 1-1.
